Activists fear Kavanaugh's appointment will tip the court to the right and place in jeopardy Roe v Wade, the 1973 ruling that guarantees abortion rights.
The Senator from ME has also been sent around 3,000 coat hangers over the course of a few months.
"This effort will not influence my vote at all", she added.
So a group of liberal activists in ME created an unusual crowdfunding campaign that encapsulated both of these emotions: they raised money in the form of pledges that they said they would give to whoever chose to challenge Collins in 2020 if she voted for Kavanaugh's confirmation. Lisa Murkowski, the Senate's other pro-choice Republican. But she also told reporters last week she thinks Kavanaugh will uphold the case because he told her it's considered "settled law".
Many are unconvinced. Earlier this month, Francis Boyle, a law professor at the University of IL, told the Guardian he thought "Kavanaugh was put on there to ensure Roe is overturned". But Collins, who fought the Republican effort to scrap the Affordable Care Act, is used to being in the hot seat. Collins has said she wants to ensure Roe v. Wade is not overturned, but also voted for Kavanaugh already, when he was nominated in 2006 to the U.S. Court of Appeals.
In reality this isn't all that much different than the money that Collins has raised from donors such as General Dynamics, MBNA Corp, Elliott Management, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Hurricane Florence strengthens to Category 4, takes aim at Carolinas
NASA astronaut Ricky Arnold , now on board the International Space Station , shared a fresh look at Florence from above on Monday. Many newcomers have moved to the coast in the almost 19 years since the last strong hurricane - Floyd - threatened the area.
"Basically, she's still vetting the new information that's coming out", said her spokeswoman, Hannah Ray. Although the Maine Senator has a very conservative voting record, she occasionally breaks ranks with her party-for example, Collins voted again impeaching Bill Clinton during his Senate trial in early 1999 and helped sink the American Health Care Act past year.
After a week of histrionics during Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings, Collins, a crucial swing vote in the Senate, is thought to be among the only people with the power to stop the nominee's near-certain confirmation to the nation's highest court.
"We need to make sure that we preserve that right in the future", she said.
Collins said she was "shocked when many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle took a position on the nominee before his identity was even known". On Thursday, the group delivered letters to her office in Bangor.
