Missy Elliott's "Work It" is not a song for the faint of heart: the early-2000s classic rap track has some seriously tongue-twisting lines.
Over the summer, Missy Elliott shared a clip of Mary Halsey, a woman the rapper dubbed her "funky white sister", performing "Work It" at what looks like a barbecue in a park. Misdemeanor herself praised her "funky white sister" for putting her thang down, flipping and reversing it. "I put it out there and said, 'I wanna go viral, ' but I never thought it would happen'". "Everybody wants to hear it". The reaction was so positive that she continued to perform the tune over the years. Upon finishing, the two, along with host Ellen DeGeneres, warmly hugged it out.
Her name is Lyn, and Halsey had just met her that day. Although the shots of DeGeneres singing along with the performance are adorable, the highlight is when Elliott surprises Halsey after striding onstage wearing what appeared to be a diamond or Swarovski crystal-encrusted medallion that reads "iconic".
