While females have had supporting roles in the past, Brie Larson's role of the part-Kree, part-human pilot who made her comics debut back in 1968, will be a first. Its co-director, Anna Boden, is also the first woman (alongside directing partner Ryan Fleck) to helm a MCU movie.
The first question answered is what costume/suit Larson will be rocking. The character's iconic red and blue ensemble, complete with gold trimming and gold star on the chest, is present and shows that Marvel has opted to keep Captain Marvel's attire as it's depicted in the comics.
Fans are eagerly anticipating which of their favorite characters will live and who will die following the events of Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel.
Captain Marvel hits theatres on March 9, 2019.
Captain Marvel was briefly referenced at the end of Avengers Infinity War when Nick Fury contacted her via a device, just before he turned to ash. In the movie's end-credits scene Nick Fury sent an emergency message to Captain Marvel before disappearing, setting her up as a game-changer in the battle with Thanos.
Larson will play the titular badass in her upcoming standalone film, the first in the MCU to be headlined by a female superhero.

First up, Captain Marvel comes out early next year, with a cinema release now scheduled for 8 March 2019, just a couple of months before Avengers 4 hits screens in late April/early May (depending on which side of the Atlantic you're on) to inevitably shake up the whole Marvel universe.
We'll also get to see Jude Law play her galactic mentor, Mar-Vell, as the commander of Starforce who admires Carol for her ability to handle her gained Kree powers. Danvers starts things off with her powers, in space, working as a member of Starforce on the Kree planet of Hala alongside Guardians of the Galaxy's Korath (Djimon Hounsou) and newcomer to the MCU Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan).
Of course, Captain Marvel isn't entirely earthbound.
Speaking about her character in a recent interview Larson said, "She can't help but be herself".
It'll also be interesting to see how they handle her stopping an alien invasion of Earth. In addition, Lee Pace will be reprising his role as Ronan from Guardians Of The Galaxy. In fact, Captain Marvel is the first superhero Fury encounters and sets him on the path to being the character we know and love.
