After President Trump tweeted that Ford should build the Focus Active in the USA and pay zero levies, Mark Levine, spokesperson for Ford, tweeted that the company hasn't changed its mind on not offering the crossover in America.
The company said the administration should remove "critical components" such as parts of refrigerators and mixers from the proposed list and add finished products such as dishwashers to mitigate negative impact on US manufacturing.
The tariffs are top of mind for Apple chief executive Tim Cook, who has personally lobbied Trump for months on issues of taxes and trade, even dining with the president and first lady Melania Trump at Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, New Jersey, last month.

In April, Ford announced plans to stop making cars in the United States - except for the Mustang - and to focus on more profitable SUVs. Pulling the plug on the low-volume Focus Active won't be hugely significant to Ford's business because it sells more than 2.5 million vehicles annually in its home market.
For the Focus Active, the tariffs on Chinese vehicles changed everything.
Since then, though, Trump has threatened an additional $267 billion of tariffs on China, a move revealed Friday that could cover virtually all Chinese-made goods entering the United States.
"It is hard to see how tariffs that hurt US companies and USA consumers will advance the Government's objectives with respect to China's technology policies".
