The Ebola virus which is threatening the Democratic Republic of Congo may be nearly incurable according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Salama said "we expect. that the overall case count will rise in coming days to weeks based on the trajectory of epidemics at this stage in their development".
Speaking just over a week after the United Nations agency declared the last Ebola episode over, some 2,500 miles away to the west in DRC's Equateur province, Dr. Salama said that WHO was unaware of the public health emergency in North Kivu province at that point.
On July 29, a previous outbreak on the other side of the Central African country was declared over after killing 33 people.
Kampala- Ministry of Health has warned Ugandans residing in districts bordering Ebola-stricken DR Congo, against the consumption of bush meat through which the disease is said to be spread. Prolonged and recent conflicts in Ituri, North and South Kivu, the Kasaï provinces and Tanganyika have left millions of people hungry and at risk of disease.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but authorities said the quake might have caused some damage. The tremble came a week after a magnitude-6.4 quake killed 14 people on the tourist island.
"That event appears to have been a woman who was admitted to hospital around Beni, and on discharge had recovered from the original complaint", he said. "Beni has been deeply unstable for the past few years due to armed conflict and Ebola poses a serious risk to communities already on the edge and threatens our ability to help them". "On the scale of degree of difficulty, trying to extinguish an outbreak of a deadly high-threat pathogen in a warzone reaches the top of any of our scales". This latest outbreak is the 10th since the first one was discovered in 1976.
World Health Organization is working with Uganda and Rwanda in case the virus travels out of Congo with refugee flows.
A health worker is believed to be among the dead, Salama said.
Ebola is a virus-caused haemorrhagic fever with a high fatality rate and in extreme cases causes bleeding from internal organs, the mouth, eyes or ears.
There is no specific treatment for Ebola, and the virus can be fatal in up to 90 per cent of cases, depending on the strain.
