After his pregnant wife and two daughters disappeared, Christopher Watts stood on his porch in Colorado and lamented to reporters how much he missed them.
The husband of a pregnant woman who went missing with her two daughters, ages three and four, has confessed to killing them and has been detained, law enforcement sources have revealed.
Chris Watts, 33, is being held on suspicion of three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body, according to court documents. He faces three first-degree murder charges and is due to appear in court on the afternoon of August 16. Watts told the news station his wife had come home from a work trip about 2 a.m. and he left about 5:15 a.m. for work and she was still there.
The three were reported missing Monday, according to news releases from Frederick police. His confession came a day after authorities launched an investigation into their mysterious disappearance, reports said.
"Our hearts are broken for the loss of our dear friend Shanann Watts and her children". The friend said they were supposed to meet later in the day, but Watts didn't answer her phone.
Chris said he raced home but found the house empty, even though his wife's auto was still parked in the driveway, which prompted him file a missing persons report with the police at 1.40pm.
In an interview with 9NEWS on Tuesday, Chris Watts said the disappearance of his wife and daughters was traumatic.

When asked if he thought his wife just took off, Watts responded: "Right now, I don't want to just throw anything out there". Shanann and her children will be dearly missed.
Watts' friend said she called police on Monday and walked through the house with officers as they did a welfare check.
