When Jordan Matthews pulled up with a hamstring injury while running a deep pattern early in Sunday morning's practice, the hope was that it was just a minor tweak. He was released the following offseason, and the Titans signed him to a one-year contract last June. Julian Edelman will also miss the first four games of the season after testing positive for banned substance. They brought in free-agent wideout Eric Decker for a workout on Monday, according to ESPN's Field Yates on Twitter.
If Matthews does miss a good amount of time due to that hamstring injury, his spot on the New England roster could potentially be under threat given the number of competitors the Patriots now have at the wide receiver spots.
To fill the roster spot, the Patriots added ex-Michigan fullback Henry Poggi, who practiced Wednesday wearing No. 48.

His best seasons came in Denver in 2012-13 when he had consecutive years with 80-plus catches, more than 1,000 yards and 24 touchdowns combined. Previous year in Buffalo those numbers dipped a bit, with Matthews catching just 25 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown in 10 games for the Bills.
