There's one other detail about the Essentials plan that merits attention: the sticker price doesn't include taxes and fees, unlike the T-Mobile One plan.
Called "T-Mobile Essentials", the new plan will be available starting August 10 and is just like the name implies: the basics.
The new T-Mobile Essentials plan limits users to unlimited talk, text and data. Without the latter, each line will be $5 per month more. Each line after that, for a total of up to six lines, costs $15 per month.
For the money, customers will get unlimited talk, text, and high speed data. Essentials includes unlimited mobile hotspot use, but capped at 3G speeds. T-Mobile One is $160 for four lines.

T-Mobile's Essential plan sits below the carrier's "One" plan that includes a Netflix subscription with two or more lines of service, Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi, global roaming and other goodies. Credit approval, deposit, and $25 SIM starter kit may be required. In T-Mobile's home state of Washington, the combined federal, state, and local rate is 25.6%, which is enough to bring a single line of T-Mobile Essentials to $75.
So how much is this all going to cost customers? That means lots of new people in new parts of the country, many of whom just want the freedom to use their smartphone without worrying about overage penalties.
T-Mobile One Plus International, finally, is also an upgrade over ONE. Additionally, T-Mobile One includes taxes and fees in the price, while T-Mobile Essentials charges taxes and fees separately from the per-user rate.
T-Mobile has always been transparent, and this move is a step backwards for the carriers entire UnCarrier movement, the last of which was UnCarrier "Next": which included the movement to eliminate taxes and fees.
