It was previously reported that Marvel was trying to convince Disney to potentially re-sign Gunn in the wake of the controversy. The so-called joke tweets, about pedophilia and rape, were recently resurfaced by alt-right agitators. The decision was made as they were believed to be "unacceptable" in the time of #MeToo and weren't part of Disney's family-friendly image.
As reported by Variety, "Gunn and his UTA reps pushed hard for him to be given a second chance, and Horn chose to take a courtesy meeting on Tuesday".
"Though the meeting was described as civil and professional, sources say that Horn stood by his decision to not reinstate Gunn as director".

Bank Prez Opposed Manafort Loan Approved By Bank CEO Trump Adviser
Prosecutors finished presenting their evidence Monday after weeks of sometimes dramatic testimony from two dozen witnesses. If the defence rests, closing statements would be next, after which the 12-person jury will begin deliberations.
Once again, this especially convoluted narrative might yet still yield surprises, be they to the delight or chagrin of fans of the Guardians movies and supporters of Gunn.
One would think that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige would have been there to help make the case for James Gunn's reinstatement, but he was said to be out of town (possibly on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home across the pond) and thus unable to attend.
All this is to say that it's been anyone's guess as to how the story might progress, though it shouldn't come as too great a surprise that the evermore powerful Disney would stand its ground despite fan backlash and unrest among its actors.
While previous reports suggested Marvel still planned to use Gunn's script for the third Guardians instalment, it was unclear and seemingly unlikely whether he'd helm the film. It is still unknown if the production schedule will be affected by the change in the director's seat. It is being speculated that the studios are planning on retaining Gunn's script for the film, but are expecting the replacement director to spend time on a rewrite in order to put their own stamp on it.
