Mr Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and agreed to a pledge to "work towards" the "denucleariaation" of the Korean Peninsula.
Officials familiar with the capabilities of the Hermit Kingdom said USA spy agencies were seeing signs of construction at a large research facility in Sanumdong, on the outskirts of Pyongyang. The new intelligence does not suggest an expansion of North Korea's capabilities but shows that work on advanced weapons is continuing weeks after President Trump declared in a Twitter posting that Pyongyang was "no longer a Nuclear Threat".
In addition to the construction activity, analysis of more than 40 satellite images taken this year shows consistent vehicle traffic at the site, which suggests that "the North Koreans continue to show up for work", said David Schmerler of the Middlebury Institute.
Joel Wit, a former State Department negotiator and founder of 38 North, a North Korea monitoring project, said it was unrealistic to expect North Korea to stop its programs "until the ink is dry on an agreement".
The factory outside Pyongyang in Sanumdong where the work is underway produced the North's first ICBMs capable of reaching the United States.
More evidence that Trump had no idea what he was talking about emerged on Monday when the Washington Post reported that us intelligence agencies believe that North Korea is building new missiles at the factor that created the first weapons that could reach the United States.
The Sanumdong factory produced two Hwasong-15 ICBMs, North Korea's longest-range missiles, but the U.S. official noted that Pyongyang still had not tested a reliable re-entry vehicle capable of surviving a high-velocity trip through the Earth's atmosphere and delivering a nuclear warhead.Читайте также: Willian breaks silence on Manchester United and Real Madrid transfer links
U.S. intelligence agencies have found that North Korea is building new missiles, based on satellite photographs taken in recent weeks and other new evidence, The Washington Post reported Monday.
"The nuclear weapons research sector and the rocket industry should mass-produce nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles, the power and reliability of which have already been proved to the full, to give a spur to the efforts for deploying them for action", Kim had said.
Now intelligence officials are sending out a new alert.
"They seem to have figured out the engines, but not all the higher-tech stuff, and that might be what this is about", the official said.
"We see them going to work, just as before", a United States official told the newspaper.
There have also been reports that North Korea is operating a uranium enrichment facility in secret.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
