The chairs of the House Oversight and Judiciary committees on Tuesday threatened to hold former Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page in contempt of Congress if she does not testify before the committees this week.
Jeffress said she received a message from the Department of Justice at 11 p.m. on Tuesday night granting Page's request to review documents related to the investigation.
"She was a part of the mess that we uncovered over at DOJ", said Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican.
"There is no basis for claims that Lisa has anything to hide or is unwilling to testify", she said, adding that the Oversight and Judiciary committees' "bullying tactics here are unnecessary".
House Speaker Paul Ryan said he was willing to hold her in contempt.
According to Politico, Ryan was referring to Page's recent suggestion that she may decline to speak before the House Judiciary Committee; adding he was "very disturbed" by the anti-Trump attorney's comments. "Congressional subpoenas for testimony are not optional". He said they were getting "cold feet" about testifying about what he called the "Rigged Witch Hunt" against him. Jeffress also said Page had been attempting to access documents at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to prepare for the hearing. Page exchanged text messages critical of Donald Trump with Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok, who will testify publicly before the panel Thursday.
Page and Strzok both worked on the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails and, later, special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation. Page has also been seeking access to Federal Bureau of Investigation documents that the committees already had, and Jeffress said they heard late Tuesday that the request for that access had been granted. Total disgrace!,' Trump wrote on Twitter.
The president has repeatedly painted Mueller's investigation as a tainted witch-hunt led by Democrats.

FBI Agent: My Work Has Never Been Tainted by Political Bias
The hearing was often raucous and seemed at times more like a TV comedy about Congress than a real committee hearing. At the conclusion of his remarks, several Democratic members of the committees audibly cheered.
Mueller, a registered Republican who was appointed by Republican deputy attorney general Rob Rosenstein to investigate.
The special counsel's team has already issued 20 indictments and secured guilty pleas from five individuals.
But it also outlined conversations between Strzok and Page that had never before seen the light of day.
"[Trump's] not ever going to become president, right?"
Trump torched Page and Strzok on Tuesday while aboard Air Force One headed to Brussels. Right?!' Page texted Strzok.
'No. No he's not.
Strzok was removed from Mueller's team when the texts were discovered a year ago. Trump wrote that Page is an "Ex-FBI LAYER", which is not a thing.
