Sharp Objects: Amy Adams’s new HBO series revealed

Amy Adams and Eliza Scanlen at the "Sharp Objects" after party. It was originally optioned back in 2008 by British director Andrea Arnold but the project never materialized. Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions (the studio behind Paranormal Activity and Get Out) picked it up in 2014 with the intent to turn it into a miniseries with Flynn contributing several scripts.

The series will have eight episodes total. I always imagine she wakes up with like, a list. Richard (Chris Messina) finds a surprising way to arrive at a conclusion about the murderer's profile.

It is a limited series in the vein of Big Little Lies and True Detective, though the irony there is that neither one of those shows remained a one-season affair.

The description for tonight's episode, provided by HBO, reads: "Camille Preaker, a reporter for the St. Louis Chronicle, is sent to her rural hometown of Wind Gap to file a story about two missing girls, one of whom was found dead and presumed murdered". Based on the first episode, it's clear she isn't the typical heroine. "We can't root for Camille, she's not a likeable character".
Sharp Objects was created by Marti Noxon (Dietland, UnREAL, Code Black) who serves as showrunner and wrote several episodes, as did Gillian Flynn.
