Trump was excoriated on both sides of the aisle Monday for his remarks after his private talk with Putin in which he challenged the conclusion of USA intelligence agencies that Russian Federation was responsible for meddling in the 2016 election. But, he said, "when President Trump visited Moscow back then, I didn't even know that he was in Moscow".
Putin said he'd expect the U.S.to return the favor and cooperate in the Russian probe against William Browder, a British investor charged with financial crimes in Russia.
But Trump's conflation of the issue of collusion with the question of Russian attacks on the United States democratic process continues to undermine the entire investigation, turning what should be a nonpartisan examination of what happened and how the country can be protected from any repeat efforts into a partisan brawl.
In the interview, Putin also pushed back against suggestions that Russian Federation may have compromising material about Trump, saying "it's clear that we did nothing of that kind of against Mr. Trump". She called Russian Federation a bad actor that has been focused on the U.S.'s demise for decades.
While standing next to Putin on Monday, Trump proceeded to attack special counsel Robert Mueller, blame the USA for the bad blood between the countries and allow Putin to lie about the interference.
"If you listen to that you would have thought President Putin was a perfectly legitimate, credible voice of reason, and he's anything but that", said Metropolitan State University of Denver professor of political science Norman Provizer.
The White House said Trump would meet with members of Congress on Tuesday.
Trump told reporters he "spent a great deal of time" talking about the allegation with Putin, while Putin categorically denied any interference in the US internal affairs. "It was great today, but I think it was really bad five hours ago", Trump said.
"They are having big protests all over the country, probably as big as they have ever had before". "You were very strong at the end of that press conference", Hannity told Mr. Trump during an interview following the press conference. Those who often attempt to defend Trump or justify his comments, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan, called on the president to take a tougher stance with Russian Federation.
We agree with Republican Sen.
"The ball is in your court now", Putin said, in a mixed metaphor via a translator, noting that the USA will host the World Cup in 2026, after Russia's turn as host wrapped on Sunday.

When Trump spoke of the "foolishness and stupidity" of the U.S. foreign policy establishment that contributed to this era of animosity in U.S. -Russia relations, what might he have had in mind?
The UK's Daily Mirror newspaper slammed Trump as being "Putin's Poodle" and Germany's Handelsblatt outlet called the meeting a "summit of the autocrats".
"We need our Republican colleagues to stand up for the good of this country", he said.
He said the joint press conference in Helsinki was an impeachable offense.

"I encourage the Administration to avoid the mistakes of past Administrations in normalizing relations with Russian Federation at zero cost to Putin and his regime".
"Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of USA foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"
One can only imagine Putin's satisfaction at the way things have turned out.
Expect (nothing) much: To prevent any backlash against a possible failure of the summit, Trump has already shielded Putin and himself by saying that he doesn't expect much from the meeting, while hoping for an "extraordinary relationship".
Wallace's one-on-one interview with Putin was recorded immediately following the Helsinki summit and aired during the Bret Baier Special Report on Monday evening.
