Tropical Storm Chris is "finally" moving farther into the Atlantic Ocean and away from the United States coastline, according to the National Hurricane Center's Tuesday mid-morning (July 10) update. The hurricane is expected to strenghten over the next two days.
The storm, however, may produce risky surf conditions, including a high rip along the coast of North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic states in the next few days and potentially creating life-threatening conditions, the NHC said in an advisory.
Winds increase closer to the warm core in tropical systems while exratropical cyclones have high winds at greater distances from the storm center.
Chris now has winds of 60 miles per hour.
