Djimon Hounsou is staying in the superhero movie business. Based on the classic Fawcett/DC comics, Shazam! centers on orphaned 14-year-old Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who's granted the powers of six ancient heroes by a dying wizard (Djimon Hounsou).
Previously, This Is Us actor Ron Cephas Jones was widely reported as likely getting the Shazam! role, but that didn't end up happening due to a scheduling conflict.
DC's Shazam! movie has found its 3,000-year-old Wizard.
It's interesting that Hounsou will be playing roles in both the DCU and the MCU, where he first appeared as Korath the Pursuer in James Gunn's Guardians of The Galaxy, but what's slightly more interesting is that he'll be reprising his role in next year's Captain Marvel. Also, let's not forget that Hounsou also had a key role in the DC Comics title Constantine.

While speaking to EW about the design of the suit, director David Sandberg revealed that he was influenced by numerous various Shazam costumes over the years, from the classic comics to the animated TV shows. However, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has proven time and time again, remaining secretive about certain aspects of a film sometimes indicates the exact opposite: that big things are bubbling below the surface. Director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) took elements from throughout Shazam's history for the costume, including the New 52's hood and lightning bolt, the Golden Age's shortened cape, and the gauntlets from some of the character's animated movie appearances.
There's going to be a wave of stuff to come from this film as we get a little closer to its release frame of April 5, 2019.
