The German automaker announced today (June 8) that its first all-electric supercar, which was called the Mission E in development, will be known as the Taycan, an Eurasian name which roughly translates as "lively young horse". "Our new electric sports auto is strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom", Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, explains.
Ever since unveiling the concept, Porsche has been saying that the production version, which is expected to launch in 2019, will remain fairly similar.
According to Porsche when the Taycan arrives, it will feature two electric motors producing more than 600 horsepower and will accelerate up to 60 miles per hour in less than 3.5 seconds. Some of the spotted cars have been wearing exhaust exit surrounds that were fake and fitted to hide the car's identity. Features such as the flared haunches, LED tail-light strip and coupe-like rear end will remain to echo the looks of the 911 sports auto. It's also expanding an existing engine plant to build electric drivelines. Porsche announced the name for its first purely electric model as part of the "70 years of Porsche Sports Cars" ceremony celebrating 70 years since the first 356. The variants, of which there is likely to be three, will vary from around 400bhp up to 600bhp.

Apple warns suppliers that iPhone demand is falling
Nikkei Asian Review , citing several sources, have noted that Apple's orders indicate a reduced sales production by up to 20 per cent.
When the Taycan finally does debut in production form sometime in the second half of 2019, it will likely look different from the images we've grown used to, all of which depict the concept. A crossover SUV version, called the Mission E Cross Turismo, was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
All-wheel drive is expected to be standard on all versions initially, but there is the possibility of Porsche launching a more affordable rear-wheel-drive edition in the future. Porsche also says that it has "a continuous power level that is unprecedented among electric vehicles". The new architecture the vehicle introduces will be used as a base for a fully electric model from Bentley. It's an apt title for the freshest model in Porsche's stable.
