A woman who kidnapped a newborn from a Florida hospital two decades ago and raised the child as her own in SC was sentenced Friday to 18 years for kidnapping.
Williams, 52, has admitted she posed as a nurse in a Jacksonville hospital to steal tiny Kamiyah Mobley in 1998, just hours after she was born. "I knew walking into this courtroom this morning that there would be no winners in this situation despite today's sentence", Aiken said after Friday's ruling.
"We are speaking to as many people as we can to try to paint a picture of what may have happened 18 years ago", the sheriff said.
Gloria Williams was sentenced to 18 years on Friday - the same length as her deception - after posing as a friendly nurse to steal Kamiyah Mobley from a hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1998. Aho also ordered that Williams was not to profit in any way from the crime. At last month's hearing she said Williams should receive the death sentence, something she would never be eligible for. Williams' South Carolina family, pastor and friends who for the longest time had no idea that the girl they knew as Alexis Kelli Manigo was really the kidnapped girl that the nation had searched and prayed for, seemed stunned as they left the courthouse Friday.
The baby was only hours old when a woman, dressed as a nurse in a flowered smock and green hospital trousers, abducted her from her mother's room, according to the 1998 incident report. Williams said she was coping with depression and an abusive relationship.

Gloria Williams faces up to 22 years in prison for charges related to the kidnapping of Kamiyah Mobley in 1988 from a hospital in Jacksonville. Peoples-Waters said she estimates Williams will serve 14 years minus her time served. "And so many days ... so many days I just wanted to pick that child up and say, 'Get in the vehicle". Twenty minutes later, she and Mobley realized something bad had just happened when the woman and the newborn did not come back. She was suicidal, and is still hurting years later. This is my child. I am your mother Kamiyah!
"I missed the first walk, first word, graduating, prom - I missed all that", Mobley told the judge, The Post & Courier reported.
She claimed she had no plans to kidnap a child.
In a separate interview with Kamiyah Mobley, The Post & Courier reported that after learning the truth about her identity and meeting her birth mother, she began calling Shanara Mobley, "Mom". She didn't tell her of her true identity until the girl discovered she couldn't get a driver's license because she didn't have a valid birth certificate or Social Security card.
