Dane's death was first noted on the website of the Los Angeles' Inner City Cultural Center in which it announced a memorial for the actor will take place on Saturday. The circumstances surrounding his death are now unknown.
Dane appeared on more than 20 episodes of The Office, and was known by fans for his short, but hilarious cameos.
While he worked on a bunch of shows in small roles like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Boy Meets World, Friends, Sister, Sister and Monk, his biggest character was Hank Tate, the security guard in the American version of The Office.

Following the news of his death, Office co-stars Mindy Kaling and Steve Carell took to Twitter to remember the actor. "So kind, funny, talented", Wilson tweeted. Mindy Kaling added, "Hugh Dane was one of the funniest actors ever". Wilson also noted that donations can be made in Dane's name to the Inner City Cultural Center. "We will miss him".
Hank was the head of security at the Scranton, PA, branch of paper-supply company Dunder Mifflin - and the clip above proves what Wilson's Dwight Schrute thought of him. Furthermore, he had a fair number of movies under his belt, including Bridesmaids, Little Fockers, and Joy Ride.
