Leimome Cheeks, 62, allegedly drove with her two grandkids, ages 8 and 9, in dog cages in the back of her SUV in 95-degree weather. Memphis Police said the children were seven and eight years old, and the kids told cops it was really hot in the back of the truck.
Cheeks told the police that she checked on the children periodically before letting them out.
Temperatures in the area reached around 35°C.
Skylarr Blake, who lives a few doors down from Cheeks, said he couldn't imagine her doing such a thing.
