Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Reyes was hurt on Wednesday when he allowed three hits over four scoreless innings at Milwaukee in his first big league appearance since September 29, 2016.
Reyes, 23, threw four scoreless innings against the Brewers before being lifted in the fifth after throwing 73 pitches. He felt pain during a pre-spring training bullpen session in February 2017 and had elbow ligament-replacement surgery. He didn't allow a single earned run over 23 innings during his rehab assignment across four levels of the Cardinals' minor league system, and he struck out 44 batters over that stretch too.
Guess it was more than that, because the Cardinals just announced that they have placed Reyes on the 10-day disabled list with a lat strain.
Arcia was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Josh Hader struck out the side in the eighth and got two outs in the ninth, and Corey Knebel struck out Jose Martinez for his fifth save in seven chances. Christian Yelich homered for the Brewers, and Erik Kratz had two hits and scored a run.
