"Why does he always get a pass?"
"I should have remembered that man is young enough to be my son", Clinton said, as if Melvin were not old enough to recall (or research) events of the late 1990s.
Host Colbert wasn't quite ready to his famous guest off the hook, saying he felt the interview was tone deaf because Clinton appeared to be offended that the question had even been asked, implying it was old news. "When we heard what had gone down, pardon the expression, in the Oval Office, when we heard about what happened there, and it was the most shocking thing we had ever heard".
Clinton was sharply criticized for the comments which stunned his allies and appeared to out of step with current support for the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, which have sought to expose sexual misconduct in media, entertainment and politics.
Internet users have questioned the woman's claims that the former United States president had behaved inappropriately toward her over several months before they eventually started a consensual relationship.
"Bill Clinton was on the right side in many ways", Behar said, pointing to Trump's attacks on the handicapped and his denigration of McCain's father, Sen. "It's not really only his language".
"Everybody's missing the point", Goldberg said.
Answering the question, the former USA president accused the journalist of ignoring "gaping facts" in Monica Lewinsky's case and tried to downplay his misconduct, saying that he doesn't "agree with everything" the #MeToo movement does and still "has some questions about some of the decisions that have been made".
"Whatever you think of Hillary Clinton, whatever you think of her, she has been dragged through the dirt". Goldberg shot back, "You don't know that, you weren't in their bedroom!"Читайте также: Israeli army kills Palestinian near fence in southern Gaza
McCain tried to argue she knows what's in George Stephanopoulos' book but Goldberg cut her off.
"I have never talked to her", Clinton said during the NBC interview.
McCain asserted that "millennial women" like Lena Dunham (who, it should be noted, is not a spokeswoman for millennial woman) also have a "serious problem" with how Hillary Clinton handled her husband's affair.
"Thank you very much", Melvin said.
Noting that he is a "very close" friend of the Clintons, McAuliffe said it was a "terrible time for the country".
"Why is Hillary Clinton complicit?"
McCain walked over co-host Sunny Hostin to seize what she saw as a "gotcha" from Behar.
"Do you know who I feel worse for?"
Something tells me Lewinsky doesn't need McCain's pity. He did apologize to Lewinsky, their families, and America, Clinton said.
