Apple on Monday previewed new controls for limiting how much time customers spend on their devices as the company tackles criticism that its devices are becoming increasingly addictive and distracting. For example, Do Not Disturb will stop your phone from displaying notifications during a given timeframe, such as at night. It will be possible to group notifications from same app into one notification and customise notifications from the lock screen. It's also reminiscent of IFTTT, an app that connects various digital services with automated "recipes".
The parent control system sits atop a broader system that adults, too, can use to monitor and limit their screen time. Both companies' efforts come as experts worry that all the flashy colors and beeps give users short-term, feel-good rewards while increasing stress in the long run.
Apple used WWDC 2018 to introduce improved notification management, Do Not Disturb During Bedtime and a new activity monitoring app dubbed 'Screentime'. In an on-stage demo, Apple showed an image of a browser blocking "Facebook.com" from using cookies and website data while you browse the web. In the words of Apple CEO Tim Cook, it was "all about software". This is the first modern iOS release that will be made available to all devices that now support iOS 11.
Apple has unveiled software upgrades that will change the way you use your iPhone. Even if users click to share an item, they will get a prompt with an option to prevent subsequent tracking. "It's an arms race and I believe Apple may be winning".
"Well it turns out these can be used to track you, whether you click on them or not". But this year, don't expect news about new gadgets. The FaceTime camera experience also includes filters, stickers, Animoji and Memoji as well, so everyone can take advantage of it. The company started that effort a year ago when it built AR tools into most iPhones and iPads; by contrast, Google had limited that to niche Android phone models.
That said, starting in 2019, some iOS app developers will be able to move over their app to the MacOS platform using new tools created by Apple.
They will also have access to a new range of emojis as well as fresh animoji and personalised animated icons called Memoji, which can be customised by "choosing from a set of inclusive and diverse characteristics to form a unique personality".

Apple's Siri voice assistant has avoided splashy headlines about privacy issues mostly because it is not created to be listening and collecting data 24/7 like Amazon's Alexa and the Google Assistant - but Siri's not flawless, either. This lets users assign phrases to an app - which opens the app when the phrase is spoken. The feature is clearly based on Workflow which Apple had acquired a year ago.
