Wednesday's settlement in principle with sex abuse victims of the former Michigan State team physician and associate professor removes some of the uncertainty around the financial impacts of the Nassar cases, said Susan Fitzgerald, an associate managing director at Moody's Investors Service.
Representatives for Michigan State and lawyers representing the 332 claimants reached an agreement during a mediation meeting on Tuesday.
The survivors would share $425 million. $75 million of that money will be held for future lawsuits against MSU because of the Nassar coverup.
The scandal also implicated Michigan State University, the university where Nassar practiced.
Dianne Byrum, a member of the school's governing board, said Michigan State likely would borrow money, tap savings, delay big projects and consider budget cuts.
"The settlement is incredible", Ms. Ewing said, adding that the agreement helped restore trust in the school's administration.
"We are truly sorry to all the survivors and their families for what they have been through, and we admire the courage it has taken to tell their stories". MI residents are paying a settlement and should be wondering how did school officials ignore complaints about Dr. Nasser. The former MSU and USA Gymnastics doctor abused patients for years under the guise of treatment. "We are taking steps to more fully engage the entire campus community in awareness and prevention activities and to improve communication across the board".Читайте также: Police respond to report of person with gun at Boulevard mall
Nassar was convicted of federal child pornography charges, for which he's serving a sentence of 60 years.
Nassar was convicted in January and could face as many as 175 years in prison.
Raisman, who won three Olympic golds for Team USA in 2012 and 2016, also blasted the US Olympic Committee for not addressing the issue involving the pedophile doctor, which affected hundreds of gymnasts.
"These bills were never about Larry Nassar or Michigan State, they were about eradicating childhood sexual abuse, so any of the legislators or outside people who are suggesting it should be stopped, maybe they haven't been listening", she said.
He added: "It is the honest hope of all of the survivors that the legacy of this settlement will be far reaching institutional reform that will end the threat of sexual assault in sports, schools and throughout our society".При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
