Michigan State University said Wednesday that it will pay $500 million to the 332 alleged victims of sexual abuse at the hands of former faculty member and sports team doctor Larry Nassar to end a barrage of civil claims filed against the university over the past year.
"A successful resolution to the litigation is a positive step in moving us all forward", MSU board Chairman Brian Breslin said in a statement.
Wednesday's settlement only addresses claims against the university.
The deal applies only to Michigan State.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette released a statement saying he is "pleased" that the settlement has been approved. It does not include USA Gymnastics, the United State Olympic Committee, the Karolyi's, Twistars, John Geddert, or other parties.
Nassar, 54, is now serving a 60-year sentence in federal prison for child pornography.
It led to the biggest crisis in MSU history, including the ouster of President Lou Anna K. Simon and Athletic Director Mark Hollis. She says she is also disappointed that a resolution hasn't been reached with other organizations such as USA Gymnastics. After graduating from MSU's College of Osteopathy, he was named USAG team doctor in 1996 and went to four Olympic games as physician for US gymnasts. Nassar was employed as a sports physician at the university from 1997 to 2016.

The sexual abuse appears to have started in the early 1990s when Nassar was still in medical school, and continued until he was sacked by MSU in September 2016.
MSU said that $425 million will. At least one swimmer was among those to testify that Nassar had sexually abused them as children.
The settlement drew mixed reviews from those abused by Nassar.
Nassar had an worldwide reputation while working at the same time for USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians.
Michigan State was accused of ignoring or dismissing complaints about Nassar, some as far back as the 1990s.
William Strampel, Nassar's one-time boss and the former dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, has since been charged by Forsyth with multiple felonies for storing pornography on a campus computer, allegedly groping a female student and using office to "harass, discriminate, demean, sexually proposition, and sexually assault female students in violation of his statutory duty as a public officer".
Nassar faced charges on seven counts of criminal sexual misconduct in the first degree, to which he pleaded guilty to in November. His sentencing in state court this year drew worldwide attention as hundreds of his victims described their abuse.
