Golovkin is set to defend his World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation, and International Boxing Organization middleweight titles against Vanes Martirosyan on Saturday at the Stubhub Center in Carson, California.
That's often how it is with Golovkin, who is now 38-0-1 after scoring his 34th knockout.
Referee Jack Reiss reached a count of 10 but could have counted to 100 before Martirosyan would have been able to rise.
"That's the hardest puncher I've ever faced", Martirosyan said.
"She's an awesome, tough fighter and she gave me a very tough, close fight", Braekhus said. Braekhus hit the canvas for the first time in her career. Kazakhstan's Golovkin, who resides in Santa Monica, California, also defended his WBC and IBO championships. Martirosyan, 36-3-1, was first to enter the ring, followed by the champion, Golovkin, 37-0-1.
Unbeaten unified welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus, appearing in the first women's fight televised live by HBO, survived getting knocked down by Kali Reis to gain a unanimous-decision victory. Rubio offered little resistance that night. He briefly had some success late in the first round against Golovkin, but it didn't last long.

A video of the incident had gone viral by that time. "Is there no sense of humanity left in India?" he wrote on Twitter on 5 May. Terrorists also shot dead a civilian Mohammad Ashraf Mir and critically injured his wife in the Sopore town in North Kashmir.

Mystery solved: Why Trump-Macron friendship tree vanished
The French edition of Huffpost quoted a French government official as saying the oak was "doing well" but was under quarantine. It was simply put in quarantine, just like all other plants and animals brought into the United States and its territories.
A big left hand started it. Martirosyan lands a right right hand but then Golovkin lands an uppercut that hurts Martirosyan.
"He's 36 years old right now, and with all the boxing politics and just not being about to make a deal with Saunders, he knows there's a chance it might not happen", said Tom Loeffler, Golovkin's longtime promoter.
Martirosyan made a fist of it during the opening rounds as he connected with jabs that left their mark on Golovkin's face.
Today should have been the weigh in between the two in Las Vegas.
When you factor in that Martirosyan took the fight on short notice, hasn't fought in two years, and is fighting at middleweight as oppose to junior middleweight, Golovkin needs to win this fight in impressive fashion. Before Saturday night, the 32-year-old Martirosyan hadn't boxed since losing a unanimous decision to former WBA/IBO 154-pound champion Erislandy Lara in their 12-round rematch in May 2016.
This time around, the Armenian-born challenger stood his ground in the first three minutes and landed six power punches to the champion's five. He was suspended in mid-April for testing positive twice for the banned substance clenbuterol.
That fight seems unlikely to happen, since Alvarez's suspension will be up in time for a rematch in September.
