A spokeswoman later said that Facebook blocks "disturbing or sensitive content such as graphic violence" so that users under 18 can not see it "regardless of whether it is removed from Facebook".
Citing CEO Mark Zuckerberg, she said then the company won't be able to prevent all mistakes or abuses "but we now make too many errors enforcing our policies and preventing misuse of our tools".
Improved IT also helped Facebook take action against 1.9 million posts containing terrorist propaganda, a 73 percent increase.
The posts that keep the Facebook reviewers the busiest are those showing adult nudity or sexual activity - quite apart from child pornography, which is not covered by the report.
That's up from 0.06-0.08% during the last three months of 2017.
The report comes in the face of increasing criticism about how Facebook controls the content it shows to users, though the company was clear to highlight that its new methods are evolving and aren't set in stone, CNET's Parker reports.
The number of pieces of nude and sexual content that the company took action on during the period was 21 million, the same as during the final quarter of past year.
