The country's Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga stated late on Wednesday that the nation's Ebola outbreak had now entered a "new phase".
The worst-ever Ebola outbreak started in December 2013 in southern Guinea before spreading to neighbouring west African countries Liberia and Sierra Leone, killing more than 11,300 people out of almost 29,000 registered cases.
The swift response to quickly tackle the outbreak is in contrast to the response to the 2014 outbreak, when worldwide agencies and governments were criticized for their slow response.
The city is a major transportation hub with routes to the capital Kinshasa, the BBC reports. He said epidemiologists are working to identify additional contacts to the 500 already identified.
It is the ninth time Ebola has been recorded in Congo since the disease made its first-known appearance near its northern Ebola river in the 1970s.

Congo has reported 23 deaths among the 42 suspected, probable and confirmed cases.
"Over the next few days we will be reassessing the projected numbers of cases that we might have and then if we need to bring in more vaccine we will do so in a very short notice".
Supplies sent to Congo included more than 300 body bags for safe burials in affected communities.
Out of the 20 persons died in DRC, 3 are health workers, Director of the Center John Nkengasong said.
