Alfred is set in the '60s and chronicles the character's past as a British SAS soldier and his relationship with Bruce Wayne's billionaire father, Thomas.
This is also a big move for Epix, which previously entered the scripted series realm with shows like Berlin Station and Get Shorty.
The series will focus on Bruce Wayne's long-suffering butler, friend, and companion, Alfred Pennyworth and it's going to look at his past (I think nowadays it's called an origin, but he's a butler for Christ's sake, not a mutant) and how he came to look after Batman - sorry - "Master Wayne".

"As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn't be more excited to make Epix the home of this series", said Michael Wright, President, Epix. FOX recently ordered a fifth and final season for Gotham, which will revolve around the transformation of young Bruce Wayne into Batman.
Heller is developing the project alongside Danny Cannon, "Gotham" executive-producer and recurring director. The order helps Gotham hit the 100-episode milestone needed to be sold in syndication, which would create a financial windfall for indie studio Warner Bros. TV.
In a joint statement, Heller and Cannon say: "Michael and his colleagues have created the flawless venue for original storytelling, and all of us working on Pennyworth are thrilled to be on the Epix slate".
